Gait Speed as a Biomarker of Cognitive Vulnerability: A Population-Based Study with Cognitively Normal Older Adults

چکیده
We aimed to examine associations between cognitive vulnerability and gait speed (GS) in a large older sample. A cross-sectional study analyzed data from the “Health, Lifestyle Fitness Adults Seniors Amazonas” (SEVAAI) project. In total, 697 participants were included (mean age 70.35 ± 6.86 years). Usual fast GS evaluated, performance was examined by COGTEL test battery. There positive correlation cognition (COGTEL score) usual (r = 0.510; p < 0.001) 0.503; 0.001). The GS, as continuous variable, indicated chance of improved up 55%, 82%. After controlling for potential confounders (i.e., sex, age, MMSE years education), improving cognition, respectively, 57% 85%. Analysis quartiles (Q) showed high significant vulnerability. classified Q1 (slower), Q2 Q3 represented greater presenting deficits, than with both Q4 (highest). Cognitive associated low GS. can be used complementary measures evaluation cognitively normal Brazilian adults.
